Summer Story

Allan & HannahThe West-Coast tour with my daughter, Hannah, was wonderful. Unfortunately, my son, Eli, couldn't come to play guitar with us because he was competing in The Eastern Canadian Taikwon-do championship.

The schools in Duncan, BC were incredible and the student choir sang beautifully with us on our song, "Miracle". The Brentwood Bay United Church concert was full of enthusiastic people, had wonderful sound & gave us the chance to hang out with the Dan & Leslie Gentile family, who produced the concert & opened up for us. The Mother's Day concert on Gabriola Island with our great friends, Cameron & Laura-Jean was also lots of fun & done with the unplugged/no microphone approach. Moby's, on Salt Spring Island, was an evening of music-loving people & incredible sea food. Oh yeah!! We also had the pleasure to stay at the Long Harbour Bed & Breakfast with our hosts Diane & Randy. It is a very large beautiful rustic house where we will certainly do a concert next time we are on the Island. Our concert with Cynthia Low on Sproat Lake was lovely, as always.

Montreal Jazz FestWe did a workshop/concert at "Hockinson High School", had a student choir singing with us and the students said that it was the best assembly they had all year. It doesn't get much better than that, but Mendocino, California, where we played on a beautiful farm in the middle of nowhere for some dear old & new friends, was also pretty hard to beat. The next day we went to Tribal Fest, a tribal fusion belly dance festival in Sebastopol, CA, where my daughter Hannah, who is also a Tribal Fusion Dancer, got to see & meet some of the superstar dancers she really admires. We ended the tour in San Rafael, CA where we had several super days with my oldest son, Jonas, my daughter-in-law, Kelly, & the adorable grandchildren, Hayden & Storey.

The first few weeks of June I toured throughout Ontario & then, on June 25th, played the Montreal Jazz Festival with my old cohort, Jim Zeller, the infamous mad harmonica player from Quebec, who was half of the dynamic duo,"Gerber/Zeller" from many moons ago. It was quite the reunion on the Lotto-Quebec stage, with a killer band (including Eli & Hannah) and two shows for fifteen to twenty thousand exuberant fans. You can see some clips by going to You Tube & typing in Alan Gerber Jim Zeller Montreal Jazz Festival. After the Montreal Jazz Festival we played another Gerber/Zeller show at "Woodstock En Beauce", one more big festival in Quebec and then an Alan Gerber Band show in Greenfield Park, on the south shore of Montreal. So far this has been quite the memorable summer!
