Sat. Night Was Magic with Alan Gerber at Acoustic Harvest
Alan Gerber gave an outstanding performance at Acoustic Harvest Sat. night (May 23/09). It was one of the most eclectic shows we've ever had with Alan performing many songs impromptu, 'off the cuff', at times moving around through the audience delighting and mesmerizing them with his wide range of genre and style; with his great wit, charm and humour. We heard hard core Chicago style blues, gentle, achingly beautiful ballads, cajun fiddle in an unusual, unique style, rockin' boogie woogie piano, acoustic/roots style guitar as well as raunchy electric riffs. We heard many songs from his new, 6th CD, "Queen of Hearts" (check it out at: www.alangerber.org) as well as a wealth of material from his travels/tours all over the world. A special moment came when Alan had guest John Finley (ex Rhinoceros as is Alan and The Checkmates bandleader) do a couple of exquisite duets with him. Alan was so entertaining - he's a very funny, down to earth guy - and the crowd just loved him; it put me in mind of the time when he opened for Jesse Wincester at Hugh's Room, just bringing down the house! Not only is he a very talented musician but also a true showman who knows how to engage his audience. Hopefully we, or some of you other Ontario presenters, will have him back soon; he's not far away (near Montreal). Lillian
