Alan Gerber  :: Queen of Hearts

There's never a bad time of year to take a road trip, and "Queen of Hearts" just might be the perfect album to make those miles go by in a flash. A roller coaster of emotional lyrics and flawless musicianship, Alan Gerber's latest release makes me want to hit the road with no particular place to go.

Tears Of Yesterday

by A. Gerber & P. Wiggins

The planet spins,
Ballerina on an empty stage.
Beating hearts
Like a drummer pounding rhythms of joy and rage,
Within a cage.

Seasons come
Seasons go, tides ebb and flow.
Out in space
There is no sound,
But the moon can hear our silent cries
When the sun goes down.

Hours into days,
Days into years,
How long will it be
'Til this darkness clears?

Hope is born
In the deepest night
Black turns to grey,
Anyields to the healing light .

Then morning comes
To wash away,
Tears of yesterday.

Moments shine
Glowing love on a mothers face.

DOODAH

by A.Gerber , R. Kempf & R. Hutchinson

Play Doodah

Sometime I do my duty, sometimes I do the job.
Sometime I do nothing but cheat, lie and rob.
Sometime I do the talking, sometimes I pave the way.
And sometime I just do the doodah all day

I do the doodah all day
I do the doodah all day
I tune it all out, make the world go away
I doodah, doodah, doodah all day .

Sometime I make the money ,sometime I take the prize.
I could be in bed by ten or an hour before sunrise.

Waiting For You

by A. Gerber & R. Hutchinson

I am a shadow
My future's behind me.
On a cold city street
You could find me.

Look in my eyes
Recognize your fear
Guilt and shame scream loud and clear
It's not far from where your standing to over here.

And I'm waiting, waiting for you
Yes I'm waiting, waiting for you
I'm not asking for much
One more quarter will buy me a beer, but a dime will do.

I was a professor with tenure at N.Y.U.
Had a house, a car, I was a family man.
I filled them with questions, and I gave them their score
'Till the day I could do it no more

The Pain And The Wine

by A.Gerber & R. Kempf

Every time my body aches like at the end of the line
Every time I just don't feel like tryin'
As I walk to the edge , open up the fridge
I think of Omar Khayam and his many famous lines .

Who gave me the pain gave me the wine
And the wisdom to know this time is mine.
This time is mine, this time is mine.
I'll live with pain but give me the wine.

And the guitar wanders across the sky
Touching the stars along the way.
My voice is gone , my heart has flown
Halfway 'cross the ocean where the dolphins play.

Who gave me the pain gave me the wine

The Animals Are Acting Strange

By A. Gerber & P. Wiggins

I woke up this morning
Rooster pecking on my head
Said he was king of the coop
By sundown I'd be dead.

I said "Rooster don't fight it
It's just better when you crow."
He said "I finally kicked the habit
I wanted you to be the first to know."

Well I don't mean to alarm
But I can't deny the change
Down here on the farm
The animals are acting strange
The animals are acting strange

I stumbled outside
Was the middle of the night
The cows were playing horseshoes
And the pigs were all in flight.

Please Mr. president
Deploy the National Guard .
